Ian’s Approach

When we are out of balance, physically mentally or spiritually we tend to compensate, because our bodies are not only where we house our muscularity and our good looks, it’s also where we hold our emotions. This begins a faulty pattern in our physical body so that when challenged, we no longer have the strength. This robs the body of its stability, mobility, breath  and energy.

Foot Health

To recalibrate physically begin by checking the landing gear; your feet. Without Stability you can never build a good foundation. It begins from the ground up with proper foot mobility. Our feet are designed like shock absorbers and our toes like routers for steering with our big toe being the most important.

However due to the wearing of narrow shoes changes the natural tripod shape the feet. The tripod refers to the three points of the foot makes with the ground, allowing us to distribute weight evenly. If one point cannot engage with the ground, then the rest of the structure above (lower leg, knee, upper leg, hip) will have its alignment and function compromised during movements.

Knee pain is up there as the most common pain, whether your lifestyle or high-level athlete, and it’s often due to mechanical stress created by a disfunction in the feet or hips. An inability to load any given part of the foot is an issue when you’re working with substantial loads, the inability to distribute the load through the whole foot, will naturally compensate somewhere further up in the kinetic chain. That is why the foot functioning at full capacity is key.

The Importance of Mobility

Everything in nature spins, and the human body being natures greatest creation is no different. We are spherical and not linear. So, to reverse imbalances in the body, you must unravel and connect with your true power, your breath, the bridge between the Mind and Body.

There is a saying; “Where your focus goes your energy flows.”

Therefore, to recalibrate is to follow the lines of energy and how it moves through the body to create Mobility.  How energy moves through the body along its synergistic system of muscles is known as your kinetic chain; like an energetic stickman this is where your true physical power lies. The pathway that controls movement, mobility and balance in the body.

Mind

Simply put, finding your true power is about perceiving or being aware of the position and movement of a balanced body. It involves connecting with your breath and following your mind to embrace physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.  Whether I’m training your mind to become more consciously aware, Training your body physically or teaching somatic movement through mobility and BreathWork, my clients will achieve a better understanding of balance and awareness in their bodies – the real mind-muscle connection, your true power.

Body and its 5 key areas

Ian's approach begins with the Body and its 5 key areas that govern whether your body is stable or not.
These foundational areas are the Feet, Hips, Knees, Shoulders and the Head. Stability at these points is crucial to maintaining balance in body.

Feet

Without Stability you can never build a good foundation. It begins from the ground up with your Feet

Knees

If your feet are not engaging  properly with the ground, then the rest of the structure above will have its alignment and function compromised during movements.

Hips

Knee pain is up there as the most common pain and it’s often due to mechanical stress created by a disfunction in the feet or hips.

Shoulders

So to reverse imbalances   in the body it starts with unraveling  increasing postural alignment and connect with your true power; your breath.

Head

true power is about moving a balanced body, connecting with your breath and following your mind to encompass physical, mental and spiritual well-being.
